Why You Should Travel to Cebu to Experience Nature
Admit it — you’ve been thinking about traveling to the Philippines for a while. You’re just having trouble with where to start, and that’s understandable. After all, there are over 7,000 islands in the country.
I’m here to suggest one of the best places for tourists in the country — Cebu. It’s well-known for its duality, meaning you can experience and explore the best views of its gorgeous beaches and vibrant mountain forests, all in a single day.
But you shouldn’t forget to wander the fun-filled urban streets and exciting nightlife. Cebu is the optimal place to go if you’re seeking the thrill of an adventure. Here are the reasons why you should travel to Cebu.
The Wonders of Nature
Do you like the outdoors? Cebu has plenty of places for you to explore. You can go hiking, swimming, or both. There are just loads of awesome spots for you to have fun. Here’s a list of my favorites:
Osmeña Peak
If you’re a fan of hiking, visit the famous mountain peak over 1,000 feet above sea level. I recommend going there early or late afternoon after all, the summer heat in Cebu is well known.
In the early morning, the peak can get a little foggy. You’ll need a guide to help you navigate the trail if you want to go during that time. But once you start your trek, it takes just 30 minutes to reach the peak, making it doable even if you aren’t at your fittest.
Sirao
One of my favorite spots in Cebu is another mountain peak. After hiking or getting a ride to Cebu’s trans-central highway, make a stop to enjoy the breathtaking scenery at the top of Sirao flower garden. You can also camp there to enjoy the gorgeous view of the city at night.
As the day ends, you can watch the stars rise when you’re off to bed. In the morning, witness the fantastic sunrise along the skyline. I promise you that you won’t find a view like this anywhere else.
Oslob
If you love the beach, you should visit Oslob. It’s a wonderland for marine biologists and tourists alike. You can find a lot of fun activities at the beach, but the main attraction is its whale shark viewing.
They migrate there from around July to March season, with a 95% chance of you seeing one in action. If that doesn’t interest you, you can also check out the local tours to take you on island-hopping trips. Island-hopping from an island — pretty extraordinary, right?
Nightlife and City Life
If you prefer the nightlife and the city views, there are a lot of places that you can visit. Personally, these are my two favorite spots for Cebu City:
Ayala Center
Ayala is the place to be if you want to take a calm stroll while window shopping. You can find restaurants, luxury shops, and the cinema all in one place. It’s basically the town square, a place where everyone converges to relax, dine, and meet.
Mango Avenue
If you’re a fan of the nightlife or if you’re looking for a date, you can try going to Mango Avenue. There are clubs and restaurants at every turn for your entertainment. It’s pretty accessible and you’ll have no trouble finding a ride home after a night out.
There’s More to Experience
The city still has plenty more to offer, but check the ones I listed above first. After all, everything is affordable here. You can go on an adventure for a whole week and still have enough money to last a month.
